Whereas under subsection (3) of section 2 of the House of Commons (Redistribution of Seats) Act, 1949(a), (hereinafter referred to as "the Act of 1949") the Boundary Commission for Scotland has submitted to the Secretary of State a report dated the twenty-fifth day of October, 1952, with respect to the areas comprised in certain constituencies described in the First Schedule to the Representation of the People Act, 1948(b), (hereinafter referred to as "the Act of 1948"), and showing the constituencies into which they recommend that the areas should be divided in order to give effect to the rules set out in the Second Schedule to the Act of 1949:
And Whereas the Secretary of State has laid the said report before Parliament together with the draft of this Order in Council for giving effect to the recommendations contained in the report, which draft has been approved by resolution of each House of Parliament:
Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred by subsection (6) of section 3 of the Act of 1949, and of all other powers enabling Her in that behalf, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:-
1. There shall be transferred from the county constituencies of Bothwell and North Lanarkshire (as described in the First Schedule to the Act of 1948) to the burgh constituency of Coatbridge and Airdrie (as so described) the area added to the burgh of Airdrie by Part II of the Airdrie Corporation Order 1951.
2. The registration officer for the burgh of Airdrie shall make, such rearrangement of the register as may be necessary for giving effect to this Order.
3.-(1) This Order may be cited as the House of Commons (Redistribution of Seats) (Scotland) (Bothwell, North Lanarkshire, and Coatbridge and Airdrie) Order, 1953.
(2) The Interpretation Act, 1889(c) shall apply to the interpretation of this Order as it applies to the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.
(3) This Order shall come into force on the date hereof;
Provided that the coming into force of this Order shall not affect any parliamentary election until a proclamation is issued by Her Majesty summoning a new Parliament, or affect the constitution of the House of Commons until the dissolution of the Parliament in being at the time of the coming into force of this Order.
